PUBLIC "Honey In the Summer" reaches Number 1 on thePOPhundred.

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

Fresh off the heels of their viral Tik Tok hit, “Make You Mine,” the boys of PUBLIC are back with a new single called “Honey In The Summer.” Upon first listen, it’s hard not to immediately think of driving around in the summertime, sunroof open. Fittingly, the accompanying video to “Honey In The Summer” features an animated version of the members of PUBLIC driving around with the top down, transposed over actual footage of a summer drive. It’s a comedic spin on what we can only imagine would have been the band cruising all together IRL, if quarantine wasn’t a thing.

The song speaks to being happy with yourself, the prominent message driving the track seeks to spark the idea that you don’t need a summer lover to have fun (which, I suppose, is an idea we’re all going to have to get used to if this keeps up). This is a distinct departure from “Make You Mine” which was a bop all about romance. Following up to such a hit can seem daunting, but PUBLIC does it with ease. The song has a different narrative but remains true to the positive pop style that kept them stuck in everyone’s heads in 2020.

Comprised of singer/guitarist John Vaughn, drummer Ben Lapps and bassist/keyboardist/singer Matthew Alvarado, the presents the song everyone needs to keep their spirits soaring.
